Affiliate disclosure

GoodBuyJournal is free to read because some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes what we recommend.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a tracked link to a retailer or brand. If you buy after clicking it, the retailer pays us a small share of the sale. The price you pay is the same as if you had gone to the retailer directly, and sometimes our links include a discount the brand offers our readers.

Which links are affiliate links

Buttons and links that take you to a retailer to buy, see a price or claim a deal are usually affiliate links. They are marked as sponsored links in the page code, as search engines require. Links to other pages on GoodBuyJournal, and links we use as sources, are not.

What commissions do not change

Commissions do not decide what we test, what score a product gets, or where it ranks. Products that pay us nothing are reviewed and ranked the same way as products that pay us well, and some of our top picks earn us nothing at all.

Products sent by brands

Some products we review are sent to us free by the brand. Getting a product for free does not come with a promise of a good review, and brands do not see a review before it is published.

How we track clicks

When you click an affiliate link, it passes through our own link (it starts with /go) so we can count which reviews and buttons readers find useful. We record the brand, the page, roughly where you came from and your device type. We do not record your name or email. Our privacy policy has the details.

Why we tell you

We think you should know how a site makes money before you trust its advice. This disclosure also meets the US Federal Trade Commission's rules on endorsements and the disclosure requirements of the affiliate programmes we belong to.
